MISC. DISCUSSION / Re: Favorite HMA memories / moments
« Last post by Josh on January 07, 2018, 11:34:59 AM »
One of my favorite memories of the HMA is the Topstone thread. I started that thread in '07 looking for info on who was still making what Topstones and it ended up taking on a life of its own. At that time there was no information at all about Topstones on the internet, it was all in the heads of experts like Darrell Vidaurri, Justin Mabry, George Ligouri. Over the next several months there was a renewed interest in Topstone masks and that thread was over 20 pages by the end of the year. It was a lot of fun learning the history of those masks and how a few dedicated masks enthusiasts rescued them from oblivion.

Great video! I've tried a few times but I just cannot get into Ghost. Mask looks really good though.

'Quite a diverse group of characters you're assembling, jupiter2.
This one's pretty scary-lookin' ... and front man in a band, no less!
My guess is they don't specialize in love songs and ballads.

Never heard of the band, but that is a great mask. Also, another fine review, jupiter!

The "Thinking Cap" was the idea of a fellow who worked there briefly named Bill Bryant.  Lynn Shook, who worked briefly as a design coordinator liked the idea and took it a step further adding in more hat styles.  These were among the first DPS products that were supposed to be manufactured in China.  Rob and I inspected the first batch that came in from China, but they were unusable, due to very poor quality (and dead mosquitoes inside).  We had to scrap them all and make them in the No Hollywood shop.  Unfortunately, they were priced to be produced in China, so as soon as the outstanding orders were fulfilled, they were dropped from the line.
