Attachments and Avatars Risk & Changes
« on: November 19, 2013, 09:23:37 AM »
Greetings. The decision has been made by the powers that be (Eric), to no longer allow attachments and avatars to be uploaded to the HMA sever. This decision was made as means to prevent another hacking attempt here at HMA. This decision is not an unusual one. The UMA, the site of which I operate and admin, has never allowed attachments or avatars shared on our server. And we've never had any problem with members adding avatars to their profile or sharing pics. The only thing that will change is the process of sharing pics and adding avatars. It's a fairly simple procedure once you get accustomed to it.

The procedure for sharing a pic at HMA is as follows:

* Upload your photos to a hosting site like ImageShack -   Flickr -  Or TinyPic

* grab the url of the pic

* click the "insert image" icon found above the smiley faces

* paste pic url between image brackets

* If you want to post a photo that is already on some other website, right click on the photo and copy the URL and follow steps 3 & 4 above.

Adding avatars can be done by:

Go to your HMA Profile. Under "Modify Profile" click on "Forum Profile Information", check the box for "I have my own pic:" and add the pic's URL (URL should end in .jpg. or .gif), then click on "Change profile".

If you don't want you avatar to be distorted, it should be trimmed to a square. You should check to see what your pic will look like at 100x100 pxls (and resize to that, if you want) before uploading it. If you need a place to host your photo, is a good one.

Finally, if anyone needs assistance in adding an avatar, please be sure to let me know and I will gladly assist you.

Thanks for your understanding.
