Sealing between acrylic washes?
« on: February 22, 2016, 10:29:01 AM »
What type of sealer would you fine folks recomend for sealing a latex mask between acrylic wash coats? I've been using plastidip spray as a general sealer but am not sure if it would bond well when using it between washes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  :)

The White Rain hair spray 'Classic Care' for Maximum Hold in the can, is what I've been getting very good rusults from. Not sure if this product is still on the market, as my can is probably over 10 years old by now.
It has very good flex with no cracking yet, but gives a slightly shine to the paint. Which I like.

Take it apart and put it together again.
 ...Molddd it like putty!

Thanks for replying, and for your suggestion.  :)

I actually watched a video the other day where a guy sealed his mask by sponging on hairspray. Seemed like a bad idea to me at the time, but if you've been using it for decades without any problems there must be something to it. I was thinking it would come off easily if the mask ever got wet or you used a damp cloth or something to clean it.

I ended up getting some Liquitex gloss medium and some Liquitex matte medium to try, but if they don't work out the way I wan't them to I'll give that White Rain a go.

I also heard you could make your own permawet equivalent by mixing water based polyurethane and latex together so I'm thinking about trying that as well. Have you ever tried that out?

I ran across this gentleman on YouTube. He has some great videos on a lot of aspects of mask making as well as props.
