Air Dry Clay?
« on: July 12, 2016, 06:49:34 AM »
Hi,

So I wanted to sculpt and cast something in resin. I used craft store air dry clay and kept it wet until I was finished. After a couple days the sculpture cracked all over the place basically ruining the piece. What should I be using for sculpting? I wanted to keep the original hardened sculpture after casting. This is why I opted to let it dry. I thought building a clay wall on a wet/soft sculpture would be a pain. I most likely need a 2 piece mold.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

If you don't want your clay to dry out, you'll need to use an oil base clay like Roma.  Your original clay sculpture will be damaged, and probably destroyed by the mold-making process.  Don't worry about saving the sculpt, you'll be able to have it back thanks to the castings from your new mold.  Good luck!
