Nice review, jupiter. I've never seen the source movie, but do like that sculpt. Truth be told, however, I prefer the Distortions Unlimited version. It seems to have tighter details and a better paint job.

Some of my favorite masks are Malonian but I've never actually owned a SYNGENOR.
It's just too easy seeing them in everyone else's collections! 'Excellent vid, jupiter2. Thanks!

However, I would make an
exception if a 1982 DP MERLIN ever materialized at a realistic price ~

the blue Merlin is one of my favorites DPs from that era. Great sculpt, awesome hair and it looks really neat in blue.

Here's a mask I've never featured before ... you'll soon see why.
I had ordered it direct from Post Studios way back in 1977.
At that time, their TIMBERWOLF character was available
only in grey and white but I really wanted to see one in black.
They initially balked at my request, saying they'd need to formulate
a custom paint scheme so I asked instead if they'd just lay black
over a grey. What I got was a weird hybrid: a grey Timberwolf,
haired in the early style of a white Timberwolf but with black fibre!

They were nice to accommodate me but I should've listened to them.
The colors/styles clashed too much so I tried peeling the muzzle hair off.
It didn't really help ~

In the end, the mask got released back into the wild. I can't remember where.

It was worth the experiment but Don Post Studios always knows best.
Their TIMBERWOLF series looks great just as it is ~

Great story, 'huna! I had no idea that DP would take custom requests back then. Did they charge extra for a new paint job?

That is a interesting story and mask! The color combo really does give it a much different look than the stock versions.
I don't remember hearing of a custom request from Don Post - it sure would be a rare mask!

They occasionally did some custom stuff for me but mainly while Don Sr was still around.
Afterwards, not as often. Bill Malone was also running a side hustle called "Fantasy Classics"
through which one might've been able to order from the DP catalogue (?).
My knowledge/memories about the business end of maskmaking are somewhat vague.
I only collect these wonderful things!

Has anyone dropped the name "Kirk Brady" in this thread yet? If not, I'll go first with a look at
my favorite mask creation of his ~

Kirk was an independent maskmaker, based in Richmond VA, who sold me a copy of
his DEMON back in the late 1970s ~

Mail order price was $55 for the mask. Hands were extra ~

I don't know what he was loading his latex with but the castings were hard as stone.
I couldn't even bend my fingers while wearing those hands!

That's a cool devil mask 'Huna. I wasn't familiar with Kirk Brady's work but a quick search turned up a thread of your own here on the HMA showcasing another mask of his called "The MILLENNIAN" and in that post was a link Pete-I posted to his blog with a nice scan of a CineMagic magazine article Kirk had written on how to make masks. All very interesting stuff. As usual a fun and informative post 'Huna!

Wowsers, great mask! At the start of the video, I thought it was an odd choice to depict closed eyes, but in context it makes total sense. This would be an awesome collectible for someone with a spare bed to keep her in!

Thanks for posting, jupiter.

That "help me" scene was an odd choice for Yordreem to reference, especially since its focus is not on Regan's face.
Still, I admire their craftsmanship and realism. 'Great vid, j2. Nothing imparts sincerity more than an artist interview!

As you may already know, my wife gave me an Ancient Evil mask for Christmas last week.
What a gal! I have this idea of someday mounting a convention exhibit featuring leftover
props from Don Con. Since Ancient Evil was sculpted by Bob Short at the 2015 show,
it would have to be included in any such display. Here's the mask now, freshly foam-filled
and ready to officially join my collection ~
