Rain is just pouring down in bucketsfull here in L.A., the perfect time to post pics
featuring the greatest of all storm-born monsters: FRANKENSTEIN !

'The first "Calendar" version I ever owned, lurking in the corner of my first monster room ~

'Two early DPs of mine, an 1100 line version from the mid '70s and a Karloff from an earlier run ~

'Frankenstein by MadMen FX, gifted to me by fellow collector Dr Terror ~

'My Karloff reissue (at right) with a vintage DP original from the Crimson Ghost Mask Room ~

Great post 'huna! When I heard the thunder outside at my place I immediately thought of Frankenstein. Twisted minds think alike or something like that.  ;D Dig the Frankenstein by MadMen FX! I'm sure you're tired of owning that piece so I'll be by to pick it up.  :o ;)

EDIT: Found an interesting post on the MadMen FX Frank on the UMA site. Is your copy the one you re-haired as the post indicates?

My copy remains exactly as pictured above. There's been no customizing.
MadMen FX's FRANKENSTEIN is an interesting take on the grand old monster,
looks sufficiently menacing although I personally wouldn't go so far as to
call it "a likeness". Rezman's is about as good as that version can possibly look ~

According to Rezman's post the pic below is what the mask looked like when purchased from MadMen FX which is why it led me to believe that yours had been redone at some point before it was gifted to you. It's a great likeness, one of the better Strange masks I've seen. I would love to have one and I'm sure a certain someone else here would too.  ;)

Since numerous lurkers still view this thread, today's post is more of an open appeal
for any information about these four mystery masks which occupied my collection in
the 1970s and '80s. They exist today only as lone photographs in my archive.

With "Creature from the Black Lagoon" back in the news following this month's death
of leading lady Julie Adams, let's start with the good ol' Gillman. It's assumed to be
a Don Post Creature from the early '70s but it's not the Malonian version,  yet not
quite the underwater mask either. 'A reworked clay press, perhaps? I only ever
saw a copy in one other collection besides mine ~

I had this big Mantis mask for a while but have no memory of where it came from
or who made it ... if I ever knew at all. It may have been Dr Lady who painted it.
Maybe he knows more ~

I would've entirely forgotten ever owning this Werewolf mask but for its sole
appearance in an old group photo. It may have some connection to the 1981
movie "Full Moon High" but my research hasn't verified this.
Does anyone recognize it?

This last one is so mysterious, I never even knew its name! I bought it as a teenager,
along with matching hands, from a long gone novelty shop called Fun Fare. There still
exists an 8mm home movie in which this character appears from every angle but only in
long shots and I have no frame grabs to offer. It can't be too late to imagine that there's
some old timer out there who would recognize it, just from this image alone ~

In this immediate virtual world we live in, part of me hopes these minor mysteries endure
just a little longer. It's all in fun for those of us who love to pursue monsters.

Great post 'huna. But as far as your mystery solving goes I got nothin'. :-\ Dig that last mask. Reminds me of the kind of stuff I used to buy as a kid.

That last mask looks like some sort of knockoff of a Teenage Frankenstein or Shock Monster.A real cheapo mask you'd find in a box full of Halloween masks in a store during that season.

Although I certainly qualify as an old timer here, I unfortunately have nothing to add. But yeah, my first thought on that last one was Teenage Frankenstein.

Thanks for sharing!

It's been raining nonstop all day long but today's storm is getting way beyond Frankensteinian ...
our entire neighborhood now looks like the Black Lagoon! You can probably guess what's coming up next:
CREATURE masks ~

Savage Eye's version was always my favorite of their Universal Monster series. It cost me $32 in
1979 and I had it custom painted the following year ~

Back then, they were available with or without the front bib ~

My version "A" reissue got refinished in 2005 with a de-emphasis on red,
but for those fishy lips ~

'One of my vintage castings, years before it was modified for use at Don Con 2015 ~

'One of those rare conceptual CREATURE masks, submitted before the screen-used design
was finalized. I last saw it at Dr Shocker's House of Horrors ~

The Halloween Society version made its first splash on the 1980s mask scene. To this day,
there can't be more than ten copies in existence ~

'A rigid casting of the "Revenge" head, either resin or fiberglass,
photographed at a convention ~

At that same convention, Don Post was seen with a custom finished version "B" which he
later handed off to a customer. 'Wish it had been me!

Gaze after the Gillman as he takes leave for he still has the most sculpturally
fascinating backside of all the "Calendar" masks ~

Nice collection, 'huna! Did you ever pick up the Forum Novelties version? I have one -- but alas, no photos of it to share. I like it quite a bit.

Great Creature masks 'huna! To be honest I've never been a fan of the older Savage Eye Uni monster masks. They always looked off to me. Charles Curtis did make some more recent attempts at Frankenstein that were much improved over his older work.

Original Deluxe SE Frank

2013 SE Frank (Both Doh and I own a copy of this one, my copy pictured)

There was also a limited run artist proof version of the above mask limited to 15 copies.

2017 SE Frank (His best work IMHO)

Doh makes a good point that the Forum Novelties Creature mask is really good, made from the land Creature mold if I'm not mistaken and still currently available.
