Monsterpalooza 2017 ~ The DPS Mask Exhibit
« on: April 10, 2017, 11:41:17 AM »
There was a long line of visitors all weekend waiting to
enter the Monsterpalooza Museum this year. Once inside,
guests were treated to this knock-out display of
DP/Universal classics presented by HMA member "kolchak" ~

Standing guard beside it were two of the custom "Star Wars"
figures also available from DPS many years go ~

Lining the sides of the immense cabinet were DP promotional
portraits that any monster kid should recognize, said to be
enlargements off the original negatives!

I moved in for closeups of my favorites ~

Wow, dig this Phantom with its original early '70s finish intact!

Don Post himself was there all weekend greeting fans, signing
autographs, and selling mask-related apparel. Someone saw
that cap he was wearing and said "Thank you for your service."
He's done more than most anyone to keep us all in way over
our heads with monsters!

The museum was great fun. Much roomier than it used to be when the show was in Burbank. You can actually move around without bumping into each other. "Kolchak" always does beautiful displays and this one was no exception. I had a chance to chat with him at the Don Post booth. I purchased the Glenn Strange t-shirt you see hanging on the wall in the pic you posted. Your display was great too Maskahuna. My friends liked it a lot as well. I kept my eye out for you but unfortunately didn't see you.

Beautiful display by Joel, the classics couldn't have looked better. Really digging that Karloff & Mad doctor.

Thanks for all of the pictures Maskahuna.  Love Joel's gorgeous Monsteriffic Don Post display.  Especially love the original Phantom and the master molds on that shelf.  Such wonderful eye candy.

Hi Josh. Yes I used LED strips - wiring with an effects dimmer.

I will post a better pic when I get a chance.

Here is the whole display with lighting. The Boba Fett and Stormtrooper looked great underlit like the masks. The lighting techs at the show were a pleasure to work with and the museum looked perfect.

What an amazing display! You outdid yourself Joel. The lighting definitely was a nice touch. Man, that Mad Doctor mask is just stunning. The eye inserts bring it to life, and the hair work is top notch. Thanks for sharing pics. I saw some on Instagram, but most were too small to really appreciate the display.

Thanks Pete! Though there are no eye inserts on this head. The eyes are just painted - it's a customized foam master 😉

Wonderful display, Joel. What is the cabinet made out of? Wood? Any build pictures? You have it on display in the house or was this just built to use once?

The masks are beautiful. All works of art.

Congrats on bringing your vision to life! I love seeing this kind of stuff.
