• Monster Moodboard: Legends of The Fall

Another Autumn has passed and I've lived to tell the tale. This year I worked on a wide variety of projects, mostly for other people, all the while filling orders for the stuff I already have up on my website. I still have some commission projects and orders I'm working on, but I've also set aside a big chunk of the next seven weeks to chip away at my ever growing list of designs and concepts. New stuff is on it's way. Stoked.

Before moving forward, here's a quick recap of what I've done in the last couple months, straight from my Blackberry to you:

Foam Carving at Monkey Boys Productions (www.monkeyboysproductions.com). I worked for these guys for about two months, building two sets of puppets for a show at Seaworld in Florida. They do beautiful work, you should check them out.

This was the day Erica brought her tuba into the shop and we all took turns playing it.

Here's a small sampling of some of the masks and prosthetics I made for a local haunt this year. For the past seven years I've run makeup crews at a couple haunted houses in the area, but this year I just couldn't do it with everything else going on. I was on site for a handful of nights to help out. These are foam latex prosthetics on pantyhose stretched over a head armature and built up with latex and cotton balls.

    Prepainted gelatin boil prosthetics.

Made a couple of these muzzles.

Foam latex prosthetic for the haunt's version of a pig-faced nurse.

Another foam latex prosthetic. I tried to pre-paint them when I had time.

A velvet werewolf painting that found its way into the makeup room. I did not paint this. I just felt extremely compelled to share it with you.

    What in the WHAT?

Yes, those are over-sized Christmas cookies. I made these for the QVC Network for their kitchen set, and possibly to be used in a couple other places. Molded in Smooth-On Rebound 25 and cast in Foam It 15. The little silver balls are actually thumb tacks. Look for them hovering behind David Venable's head this Holiday season.

The backseat of my car, sometime in late October. Living the dream.

And there you have it. I guess if I'm going to be a blogger I have to get in the habit of taking more pics of my work, which has always been a problem for me.

As of right now I have 6 pieces in various stages of completion in my studio, and the deadline for all of them is simply "SOON", which has been a little tough to deal with in the last couple weeks. I find myself bouncing around a lot from one piece to the next because I've been feeling like they're all demanding my attention equally and simultaneously. It wasn't until last week that I feel like I've finally gotten my groove back and started to make significant progress on anything.

However, you can expect to see something next week, most likely a new mask design.
